For those of you not in the “know”: This is the same kid we first saw on page… um… 16 of Issue #1 and The Crusader caught on page… hang on… 26 of the same issue.
Any relation to Hitlers Eagles Nest?
Nope. Just thought it would be a cool name for their base. Since it’s high up above with a bird’s view and all.
I like the design of the “Eagle’s Nest”. It reminds me of this building in Metropolis (1926)
And yes, it’s a very cool name =)
Metropolis is one of those films that I vaguely remember seeing as a kid, but just like the old Buster Keaton Flash Gordons I don’t dare watch them for fear of ruining the memory of them being so good. 😀
A Lawyer ? In a top secret facility ?
The Eagle’s Nest isn’t so Top Secret. At least not ALL of it. Besides, in order to keep things “legal” prisoners get a lawyer. It’s not Guantanamo or the Negative Zone or wherever they sent villains in Marvel’s Civil War.
In Godlike they didnt fuck around with supers that misbehaved. 1 chance or its a nice life time supply of tranquillizers at best, a lobotomy or a bullet at worst.
So then you’re left with villains sitting around looking like this: http://storage.canoe.ca/v1/blogs-prod-static/mediam/OneFlewMcmurphyChief.jpg
You would be an excellent member of Danko’s staff, located at building 26, Washington DC.
Heroes, season 3.
The technical word for an eagle’s nest is ” Aerie “; not that it makes a big difference in context, but I was obsessed with birds of prey when I was a little kid, so forgive my anal-retentiveness.
More interest develops in the plot; it seems that the super-powers are trickling down and wreaking havoc on the street level, similar to the way the Tommy gun ended up in the hands of the Mob in the earlier part of the 20th century.
Hey, I like that… Aerie… The Aerie. Maybe the official name of it could be The Aerie.
Eagle’s nest to those of less education. 😕 😀
If it’s an American government facility, it might be the other way around: The Eagle’s Nest is the official name, since America’s national bird is the bald eagle, but people call it the Aerie for short. Critics of the supers program might deliberately mispronounce it as the Eerie. 🙂
Also a good point.
Really great artwork! I found out about “Heroes, Inc” through the CCA Human Trafficking Project (good to know the Golden Age Heroes still fight for good causes).
Welcome aboard. Glad you like what you see here.
I need a hairline on Archie in panel 2. Pink, white, and shine at a distance makes him look like he is bald with just a forelock.
Oh, and I prefer Eagles Nest to Aerie.
😀 the hairline’s pencils got kind of lost in the change of the image size. It’s on the “to do” list. 😉
The base has already been called Eagle’s Nest in issue#1, which is already printed so I’m not going to make any big changes soon. It might be brought up in passing or in some of the documentation.
The hairline? Simple, a bit more colour an archie’s forehead, because he’s so angry, some red on his head will be believable.
Archie kind of looks like my dad (even more so when angry).
Not that dad would always be so pissed off…
Are you sure you haven’t used him as a model?
Way back in 2004 when I first started making sketches for the Captain America story, that eventually became American Crusader/Archie, I had a certain elderly man in mind as a model…
And, no, I don’t ever remember him being THAT pissed off. 😀
EDIT: Dang! 2004… This has been rolling around, in some form, for almost SIX years… 😯
I really love how you do colors. You put such emphasis on how bleak this alternate world is, but at the same time make certain things stand out. And it works so well.
Thanks. A lot of the time less is more. 😉
And, by the way, things are getting bleaker…
Ooh, diving into the nitty gritty, are we? Excellent!
Well, are the good guys actually good guys? Which side is Heroes Inc on anyway?
So many tidbits laid out here and there, so little actual information. Man I am stoked. But the wait is killing me… 😀
And yet it’s all there right in front of you… 😀 When certain things are revealed you can come back (unless you remember) and go WOW!
That’s one of the main problems with webcomics vs. print comics: the slowness of things being revealed. 😕
Oh, I was so not complaining., This story ROCKS.
And I do think I may be getting some glimpses, but I will not hypothesize here. After all, with my luck I am either totally right or utterly wrong.
Either way, even if I am totally off base, I think this is a COOL story
Don’t worry, I didn’t take it as a complaint. I just get frustrated myself at how slowly this thig is coming out.
If only I could sit down and pump it out. Have an issue per month coming out! Wouldn’t THAT be cool? 😯
Print comics. One guy makes the pencils, one guy makes the ink and one guy writes the story and all three are be payed for it. That can speed it up very much. Especially the last thing. 😉
If I was doing just ONE of those jobs (writing, penciling, inking, coloring or lettering) I would probably have two or three projects already done!!
I’ve never made it secret that I’m not totally in this as a hobby either. Having not sold even one issue is a bit of a downer slows things down a bit too.
Finding a PUBLISHER is beginning to look like the right path…
I know it’s a bit late to ask this but… why is Obama president? I believe you also mentioned JFK and Ronald Reagan? I was wondering about this because isn’t it possible that these people wouldn’t even be ALIVE during your time line? I can only imagine that the war was infinitely more catastrophic once super powers and (what look like) nuclear missiles were deployed.
On a side note, are you going to delve deeper how the war went? I’m still a little foggy on the subject. I know the Japanese and Germans invaded/bombed the coasts, but what happened then? Why’d they leave? Why are France and China independent while Britain isn’t? Oh, and where is the beginning of divergence from our time-line? I imagine it was quite a bit in the past since the Germans had mechs and the Americans seemed to have some idea on how to manipulate DNA.
Yeah the whole chain reaction thing of a different timeline means that Obama might have never been born, but I didn’t go down that path. I think it’s more interesting when things are “tweaked”. Some things more than others.
When I first wrote Heroes, inc. Bush was still president so I made Gore president instead, which right away told the reader we were dealing with an alternative history. No deep political agenda there just part of the story. JFK was mentioned Reagan wasn’t. JFK wasn’t assassinated because Archie took the bullet for him. (Not a spoiler. If you missed that read again 🙂 )
Yes we’ll see more details on the end of the war. It’s such a big “wow” part ofthe story that it’s towards the last few issues. Japan and Germany WERE on american soil, but the US managed to push them out then pulled out of the war. France is independent because they managed to build a secret weapon of their own. China is independent, but not even close to the size it is in our reality. Britain became part of Germania because it’s much smaller than the US, closer to Germany making it easier to conquer PLUS having the London wall was a cool twist on the Berlin wall.
“you better talk fast before you become spot on the sidewalk”- typo or intentional?
