Yup. It’s finally official. Heroes, inc. is at an end.
Believe me that no one is more sad to see it go than me. I absolutely LOVED doing this series and had/have some wonderful places and story arcs planned for the series. Building these characters based on the Golden Age heroes has been great. I’ve really come to love these guys and every one of them has a story all planned out. Starting from the Golden Age, up to the present and on into the future. Thinking of it now just makes me want to grab my wacom and get to work on it, but I know that I just CAN’T keep the updates going. At the high point of our webcomic days, doing Heroes, inc. was a full time job. Unfortunately, as with most webcomics, it just didn’t take off to be the commercial success I hoped it to be. Whether that’s because readers are really just satisfied to read it online or that I could never be able to do the leg work of going to a comic con in the States where a majority of the market is… we’ll never know.
Personally I think that it has to do with the fact that, though webcomics are a great medium for getting the word out, true success stories are few because we readers don’t really need to buy those paper comics anymore. I never wanted Heroes, inc. to come to the point where it felt like I was beating a dead horse. I was keeping up that little flame of hope that this would all turn into an actual bread and butter job, beyond the point where it was clear that it would always just be a hobby.
It’s time to face the facts and put the project to sleep.
Who knows. Maybe one day that Heroes, inc. Noir book might look up at you from a shelf at your local comicbook store or pop up on a online store list, but until then… Thanks for sticking with me for so long. Thanks for giving me encouragement that what I was doing was actually quality stuff. Without you loyal readers, I never would have gotten this far.
So thank you and hopefully we meet again in the future.
-Scott-

Scott, I’m so sorry to see you go, and even more sorry that you had to give up on your dream. I can only imagine how difficult it was to come to that conclusion.
Take care, and good luck!
Thanks! It’s now up to you to keep the Golden Age heroes fighting the good fight.
Ummmm jeez this is painful to say but can i still do the wiki job?
Give me some time but i will try and send a email i intend to get shoots of all the characters mentioned so far and if you’re commission rate holds steady it will be within budget.
I have a feeling this is not the last we will see of this comic you have shown an example of how revamping golden age concepts can work out to make a awesome story. after all is it not a trope codify-er for superhero comics to come back from the dead?
Man, I am sorry to see this one vanish. I really enjoyed my time here.
Good luck, Crusader!
And another creative webcomic with great potential meets an untimely demise. What a bummer. It was great while it lasted
Ah. So sorry to hear that, but hey, better to have tried and failed (for now) than never to have tried at all. Best of luck for the future, and may you find a way to web-sell comics. Hmm… come to think of it… offer issues online, rather than printed. People who buy an issue get a pdf of it they can print out, eg via drivethru comics. You don’t have to pay for printed issues, and if people want a printed copy they can go to Officeworks or somewhere similar. (or even just print it out themselves at home)
Awwww dude, c’mon! Nothing worse than a great comic suddenly ending! I think you’re looking at this the wrong way! Maybe it won’t make you money, but damnit man, people love your work! You’re a fantastic writer and a wonderful artist!
Should just do the whole story, start to finish offline as a giant ass book, get it published, market the hell out of it. Take your time with it, no update schedule stress, just work it through, tweak it, complete it when you complete it, then get it on shelves ASAP. Its too good to just bury it!
From one entertainer to another, stay confident, my friend! And never give up!
This is one idea I’ve toyed with. Just suddenly announcing the whole thing packed in one HUGE graphic novel.
We’ll see…
Really hope you do. Something this well put together deserves to be on bookshelves. I’d definitely love to have it in my collection of thick (mostly Batman) graphic novels.
Something with this much thought put into the story would be perfect for a full-scale graphic novel. I would imagine getting a ‘one-shot’ graphic novel published is a lot easier than something done as a series in single issues. In my mind, one shot may just mean one volume at a time
Considering you’ve made an entire world with its own history, it could easily be used to stories as long as you had ideas. I know I’d pick up the full book, I did for Superpowers, and I was far less impressed with it than I have been with Heroes, Inc.
Then you’ll love what I’m doing with The Owl and the (original Batman) The Black Bat.
:O Keep us posted! Thats a book in its own right!
Sorry to read this. Good luck on your future projects.
Do you think you could take a few minutes to write where you planned for this to go? I don’t mean to fill in all the details but just the rough outline.
Origin reveals, gigantic battles, surprising plot twists and even a bit of time travel. You know, the usual stuff.
I was very sad to see the monument up on the page today.
Echoing the other commenters, despite the irregular updates I have very much enjoyed the story and especially the artwork so far.
I understand your pressures of real life and making sure you have a roof and food etc, but i want to encourage you to keep chipping away at this in whatever time you have.
Good luck and i hope one day to run into this story again.
I’ve been afraid this was coming for a while
Nonetheless, I thank you for the time spent bringing the story to us. I’ve enjoyed the art, but the writing and the rewrite of history and the details involved with such a thing were was I was most impressed by. I’m sad I didnt get to see Old man Boone whoop on any young powers. I imagine I’ll still watch this site and MarriedtoMyWife and hope for mention of Heroes returning. Best of Luck in your endeavors Scott
I know many of us will miss your story.
I’ve actually drawn a bit of Old Man Boone (Black Terror) out of prison and battling some “badguys” in downtown New York with Archie.
Too bad we never got that far…
But I truly hope that one day soon I’ll return to this and it’ll show up somewhere. It’s the biggest story I’ve ever put together, so I guess it deserves to get out there…
JackTrade says it well, I deplore great artwork and story work being dumped on the side of the cash poor information superhighway, but there aint the bucks in it if people rely on old tired dead tree editions to make their money while giving away free electron versions.
I really was struck with the beauty and edgyness of this work, and I did have hopes of it continuing, and now, bam – shuddering to a halt.
Like Crimson Dark, it’s stopping without it reaching a satisfactory end point. That stinks. There is a collection of webcomics out there who walked a beautiful artistic and narrative line, only to fail at some point along the arc without a good reason. There is a smaller collection of webcomics that make it to a point, and finish neatly, not tidily, but enough to satisfy.
Those of early premature demise now includes Heroes Inc.,
The only 2 I know of that made it to the end of the awkward funding model are Digger (now free to read online) and Necessary Monsters (website hacked but it used to be free to read online)
Ah well … I might wander over to tangents.us and ask the reviewer there to consider a post to commemorate what was, and what might have been.
I’ll be crossing my fingers occasionally that a large sum of money/enthusiasm appears on your horizons sometime soon and you feel like entertaining spendthrifts like myself again.
Really sorry to see this go. Sorry for your hard times, and the losses. Thanks for the stuff you did! There is a curious pleasure in the anticipation of how things are going to go. It was wonderful how well you generated that anticipation. Best to you and yours.
Well this just sux a big one.
But as the man said, I can’t say I didn’t see it coming
Great art and an even better story
At least we have MtMW to hang onto
If Finland has a lottery, I hope you win it bro.
God Bless You and yours
They do and for the first time in ten years I actually took part.
It was a record 10 million€. Needless to say we didn’t win…
But I have a feeling that this won’t be the very last you see of Heroes, inc.
Hm, you don’t have the “Euro Miliones”?

(In a some weeks it can goes up to 100 millions, that’s to much obscene)
Well, we germans doesn’t have it either, but I’m doing it sometimes via internet…
Bloody waste of money… sniff…
Well, the german lotto has a chance 1:140 million, so, staying home it the best.
Oh, – by the way, if I’ve got a little bit of luck, watch out your mailbox.
You know, George Harrison once paid to see “The Life Of Brian”,
well, I want to read “Heroes Inc.” … grin…
Allright, a bit more serious… or less.
You could show us some sketches, not only from “Heroes Inc.” but also from “Humans And Other Myths”.
So it wouldn’t be a suddenly “Good Bye”
Pleeeaaaaaseeee……
Well, I will leave the light on for you.
Not even weekly or monthly updates?
*sad panda*
This sucks. A lot. But I wish you good luck with whatever you do from here, great talent like yours always finds a way.
If only it were that easy…
I said this on MTMW, but it bears repeating here.
“I really enjoyed Heroes Inc. I’m sad to see it go, and even worse, didn’t finish the story arc you had going. You do have a great talent, and I enjoy MTMW also. I’ve been supporting Heroes Inc. on TWC since I found it over a year ago. The long hiatus earlier made it a little harder to promote, but I doggedly kept after it, because I saw a quality story, with quality art.
Best wishes my friend and I’m still in your corner.”
Great comic, and it will be sorely missed.
PS. Has anybody suggested Kickstarter campaign for completion?
Thanks for the loyalty. Really!
Kiskstarter has crossed my mind many times. That and all the others (indie gogo, Rocket…something… etc. etc.)
The problem with them is that you really need a HUGE networkk to get something of of the ground. I’m afraid mine would be an embarrassing failure…
Now that is defeatist talk right there. And by that I mean you are defeating yourself before you even try. I see tons of junk succeeding on Kickstarter. Your stuff is not junk. So try it and find out if it fails. If it does, just how much have you lost? Not much I think compared to the payoff. You just need to think marketing a bit, come up with some rewards, figure out how much you need to take in, notify your fans ahead of time, etc.
What about offering prints of requested pages as one way to bring in a little money, or sell a maquett (?) (little statue) of a character or 3, or a T shirt or coffee cup with some uniquly Heroes Inc logo and retro character. I.e. give people a conversation piece. If I see batman, I don’t ask questions, if I saw Black Terror, Crusader, Dianna, or a 2 sided hulk/preacher, I might ask questions. When one fan talks to another, then you gain fans.
I had hoped to see Boone use a Power, or see Archie get his powers.
I’m starting to put something together, but I think it’l either be Indiegogo or Rockethub since Kickstarter only works in the U.S.
I’ll keep you posted…
I would do my best to kick something in (times are hard!). But I love this comic!
I will watch this space.
I really liked Heroes Inc., and hope that it will be back.
There are very few webcomics out there that make even enough money to pay the internet fees. I’m very sorry that you’re didn’t attract more funding. You have skill and a great story.
I am working on a webcomic now (still in the writing/planning stages) but I never expect it to make money. It would be nice, mind you.
Just checking back in, hoping for a “change of heart.” Scott, this comic (and its creator) does have a special place in our hearts.
Don’t cry, friend. It was a cool webcomic, and no experience is ever really lost, because you learned a lot of things to do and not to do to make your comic known.
For your next project, you WILL begin from higher.
