Sooo…. Lawrence wasn’t down for the count quite yet.
go go selfcontrol….I guess he learned a bit of selfdiscipline during his years as a priest. Original idea with the bus by the way
I originally had him doing “passive” martial arts on the goons, but quickly gave that idea up for the more realistic “let’s get the heck out of Dodge” approach.
Once again, a beautiful page. Your figure drawing has a naturalistic side to it that makes the characters seem so much closer to our reality. Plus, Lawrence’s comment to God at the end is priceless.
Thanks Scott. If it was up to me I’d just do characters with either blank or abstract backgrounds.
That bus move and the last dialogue line are moments I’ve been waiting for.
Oh man I love that…
Of COURSE the goons won’t just let him leave. Of course they won’t… idiots…
The rain effects in your images are beautiful.
JRJR has had a huge affect on my rain… 😀 Just check out any of his Spiderman rain fights.
If he used the bus as a weapon it would probably qualify for this:
Dang! That’s a long list. I’ve been there before with a plan to add Heroes, inc. to some of the lists, but it’s just too big of a job…
The bus, the green …lasers(?) coming trough the windshields, the rain… excelent work!
But the gem on this page must be the top panel. A slight reference to Spiderman (the death of Gwen Stacy) and Sin City? http://www.canmag.com/images/front/movies2005/sincity10.jpg
I like the fact that Lawrence has changed, makes for a more realistic, but also a more interesting character. Still, there’s a small part of me that wishes he’d smash the goons with the bus though… Hehe.
Oh, my bad english, I thought you did say at the last page that Lawrence would die now.
It was so a dramatic picture.
You meant that he will never use his transformation again…
Good, and obviously he doesn’t need to become a big mountain of muscles.
But one thing is sad, I have to wait until the next monday… 😉
The bus kind of came out of nowhere, if you ask me. However, this was all damn good. Amazing work today.
I’m puzzled over how Lawrence managed to move half the goons who were surrounding him so that they weren’t surrounding him any more. You can’t interpose a bus between you and 50 goons if half of them are on the same side of the bus as you are.
Even though surrounding someone looks cool, it’s NOT very practical when the actual shooting starts. Obviously they moveed to one flank, to concentrate their fire and to avoid being zapped.
Nevermind. Checked back a few pages and now I see where the bus came from.
Hehe, I had a feeling this was the direction you were going! Nicely done!
I was really surprised he didn’t “monster-out”.
Excellent page, loved the layout and the rain effects. Nice!
Let me think on this. Lawrence snags the bus, whips it in front of him to block the energy weapons of the goons, more quickly even than their trigger fingers! This implies not only staggering strength in the “non-Hulked” state, but the ability to manipulate personal body mass, or somehow keep his feet planted on that particular patch of ground, a la the Blob (X-men) . Neat powers! And those must be some energy weapons to stagger him in the first place. Beautiful, evocative art, by the way — and the story has the breath of magic. I’m hooked.
Yes. He’s something of a force of nature… 😀
Not to be taken lightly, thus the “Oh crap” line from page 7…
Well Lawrence, what would be the point if it was easy?
Now this internal struggle could be because it would have been easier to go “Hulk” on the goons. Or it could be that he really liked the sense of power that hulking-up gave him. Or (throwing some pseudo-science out here) he became addicted to the shit-load of testosterone and adrenaline that hit him every time he changed.
These seem like better reasons than him simply renouncing violence.
I’m basing the testosterone thing on the fact that these guys got there powers from being pumped full of chemicals and zapped with radiation.
Instead of the traditional magic/space ring/belt/bracer or the other traditional cop outs the more mainstream heroes use.
Testosterone is a bitch isn’t it?
Very good work again. The only thing I don’t really like is the effect on the torn clothing (could not have done it better myself, though 😉
I wanted to have burn marks from the lasers, but kind of hard with black cloth. Had to settle for torn holes…
Well the powers with the testosterone would probably share some side effects with steroids.
